Following Directions! A unit that will get your classroom back on track!

If you are a teacher, and find yourself repeating directions orally or rereading written directions to your students time and time again, then this unit is for you!

Being classroom teachers with combined 30+ years of experience, we have always encountered students who cannot follow directions. Here is what is included:
-An interactive PowerPoint that will engage your students

-A letter you can send home to families

-A directions test to give your students (included!)

-A four card Directions acronym page to copy, cut out and use for your students.

Fifth Grade Math Common Core Kid Friendly "I Can" Statement Cards

If you are a fifth grade teacher these "I can" cards for each math area are a must have for your Common Core classroom. These cards are intended to help your students understand the main focus of your Common Core math lesson.  We have the cards printed off on heavier card stock, cut in half, and then bound together with a metal ring clip. That way, we can easily flip to the appropriate standard card and display on a document camera during the lesson. We also have students write the standard in a math notebook so they can reflect after the lesson. The cards can also be printed off, cut in half, and handed out to the students.

Included in this detailed resource is:
-Over 60 “I can” statement cards from all of the Math Common Core Standards that are kid friendly, and easy to share with your students.
-student reflection sheets for each standard.
-A teacher reflection sheet answer key.
-A teacher helpful hints page on how to use the Common Core cards.

Below is a sample of what the cards will look like:
We pride ourselves on creating resources that we use in our 5th grade classrooms. This will be of tremendous help as you teach the Math Common Core Standards. You can find it by clicking here.

Christmas Common Core Writing Activities and Holiday Link Up!

The Christmas season is fast approaching. I'm sure you have seen Christmas decorations being displayed as soon as the Halloween ones disappeared almost overnight. As teachers, we always look to the Christmas season as a time of giving. Here is a tip that we do in our classrooms to make the season more about giving then receiving.

Each year, we give our students a free book coupon that they can use out of the Scholastic book orders. We usually have quite a few bonus points accumulated, and allow our students to pick valued up to $4 each. This is a great gift for students. Not only do they get to pick out a book of their choice, but it is a present that will help them to continue to be a better reader, and not a toy or gadget that will be quickly forgotten about. Click here for the FREE cards that we give each student!

We have also created 10 creative Christmas Common Core Writing Activities that would be great to use for writing stations or as assignments during writing class for students in grades 3-5.

Your students will have a blast! Some titles are: The Santa Sled Race, Unemployed Elf, The Great Christmas Capee, and Sick Day for Santa.

Each activity is aligned with at least one Common Core Writing Standard.

Your students will have a blast being able to chose a topic that interests them! You can access the activities by clicking here
