Communicating With Parents About the Kindle Fire in the Elementary Classroom

Whenever this is a change in my classroom, I like to notify my students' parents. With the introduction of four Kindle Fires, I wanted to tell the parents about the devices and how they would be used.

If you click on the image below, you will be able to access my introductory Kindle Fire parent letter to download.

I received so many positive responses from parents about the letter I sent home and the use of the devices in my classroom. I knew I had made the right decision.

As you will notice from the letter, the next step will be to eventually allow student-owned electronic readers into the classroom. This is taking careful planning with my school's media specialist (librarian) and principal. We are looking at our district's technology policy and making sure that we have on file an Internet Use Agreement that all students and parents signed the first week of school.

I will be sending home another letter after this first week of my students using the four Kindle Fires, regarding student-owned devices. There will be clear parameters as to how and when the devices will be used. I look forward to putting more electronic readers into the hands of my students.

If you have any comments or suggestions as to how you communicate with parents regarding electronic readers, I would love to hear them.

Stay tuned for more blog posts about how we are using the Kindle Fire in the classroom!
